To the editor:

Dear City Commissioners,

Please keep City Hall exactly where it is.

There are particular landmarks that give our city its unique personality and inspire strong community. Mass Street, my husband, Bob, argues in his new book of that same name, gives our city a heart, a gathering place, a certain place for parades and protests.

Relocating City Hall will weaken that strong heart of Lawrence. Moving City Hall will take away one of two anchors — the other is the courthouse –that mark the start and finish to downtown.

Other communities envy the beloved Lawrence vibe of Mass Street.

Don’t give it away. Don’t forfeit the heart of our community.
