Letter to the editor: Inform yourself & vote

To the editor:

In conversations around town with my fellow Lawrencians, quite a few people have noted that they will not be voting in our primary elections. The reasons are varied, but the one that concerns me most is the idea that there is little difference between candidates of the same party.

As a Democrat, I am most familiar with the candidates of my party, and I can say, unequivocally, that experience, temperament, community tenure and background vary widely among these office seekers. I hope every party-affiliated voter will examine the records of their candidates, come to an informed decision about them, and vote in the primary! The deadline to register to vote in our upcoming primaries is July 16; advance voting begins on July 17. Primary election day is Tuesday, Aug. 6.
