Letter to the editor: Minority rule

To the editor:

A quick search and I found these numbers to crunch. In the 2020 presidential election according to Wikipedia: Joe Biden received 81.2+ million votes for 51.3% of the total votes cast. Donald Trump received 74.2+ million votes for 46.8% of the total votes cast.

According to a recent AP poll: Roughly 42% of the Republican party identify with the MAGA movement and 58% do not (and these numbers are consistent with the polling at the time of the 2020 election).

So the math begins. If we take 42% of 74.2 million that voted Republican, we get the number of 31.1 million voters that identify as MAGA adherents. If we take the 81.2 million voters that voted as Democrat and add the 74.2 million voters that voted as Republican together we get a total electorate of 155.4 million. Now, if you take the number of those that identify as MAGA (31.1 million) and divide it by the total number of voters (both parties) 155.4 million and multiply it by 100 you get the percentage of the electorate that is running the country. That’s right, 20% of the electorate is running the country right now. I don’t know about you, but I”m getting very weary of a minority of a minority totally screwing up the country.
