Letter to the editor: Justification for Trump falls flat
To the editor:
In his recent letter, Dana Anderson said he was not voting for Trump but for his policies. His letter reveals an astounding lack of knowledge of what has occurred under the Biden administration and is likely to continue under a Harris adminstration. There are too many misstatements and misunderstandings to cover but here are the big ones:
Trump and the GOP — the party of book bans and “Don’t Say Gay” laws — are hardly champions of free speech.
The Supreme Court, having repealed constitutional rights and overturned long-standing precedent without sound reasoning other than their view that previous rulings were “wrong” is hardly a protector of the Constitution.
The stock market has ballooned under the current administration adding great value to my — and likely, Mr. Anderson’s — 401(k).
We have no troops fighting overseas.
Trump caused his own party to reject the border deal they negotiated simply to keep the issue alive for his campaign.
Trump only supports freedom of religion for those who share the fundamentalist Christian version and seeks to impose its philosophy on others who believe differently.
As to freedom of speech, clearly no one kept him from expressing his views and having them published by your newspaper.
A vote for Trump is a vote for Trump and autocracy. Mr. Anderson’s attempt to justify his vote falls very, very flat.
