Letter to the editor: We must support Ukraine
To the editor:
Why in the world are so many Republicans against supporting Ukraine with all the money and weapons the U.S. can afford?
If we don’t help Ukraine, we are eventually likely to face the Russians ourselves. Does anyone think Vladimir Putin will stop with a victory in Ukraine? Don’t you remember the old Soviet Union and the tyrannical Communists in charge? They ruled with an iron fist and one of the largest, readiest armies in the world. Putin’s biographers tell us that his dream is reestablishing this empire. Putin is not a good human being. He is a cruel despot who poisons those who disagree with him and has them pushed out of high windows. Why would we leave ourselves at his mercy?
If we let him take Ukraine, he will rebuild his army stronger than ever, and he will attack other smaller nations, eager for their territory and natural resources. When that happens, will we continue to stand back and simply observe the savagery? History says no. Eventually, the U.S. will be forced to send our own sons and daughters to stop Putin from his continued brutality and murder. That is the kind of nation the U.S. has always been.
Why not support Ukraine now? Let Putin know that America and the world will not allow his slaughter to continue? We abandon Ukraine at our peril.
