Letter to the editor: Bag nonsense

To the editor:

So the City Commission is going to ban plastic bags under 4 mils in thickness. Isn’t that great! Now all of the plastic bags will be 4 mils and thicker. What has been accomplished? Nothing! We still have small trash bags, tall kitchen bags and contractor bags going to the landfill, and we are going to spend over $100,000 a year to do … nothing.

Why not do something positive for Lawrence? Use your power and influence to replace the plastic bags you dislike so much with biodegradable bags. And while you’re at it, fill the potholes on 31st Street and repaint the street lanes and really help the residents of Lawrence and our visitors.

By the way, there is no longer such a thing as a single-use plastic bag.

Thousands of Lawrence residents will thank you for doing something positive.

Richard Funk,

Lawrence
