Letter to the editor: Thankful for dog being saved
To the editor:
Every now and then, instead of being bombarded with news of hate crimes and acts of violence, it’s nice to read about something that makes us feel good. My faith in the goodness of humankind was renewed two weeks ago when I was walking my dog, Willoughby. From a distance, another dog was being uncooperative with his owner and pulling on his leash. He soon freed himself and bolted, racing for my dog. A vicious attack ensued and Willoughby was unable to defend himself. I was stricken with fear and all I could do was scream as loudly as possible. Within minutes, a group of people came out of their houses and worked to subdue the mean dog. Someone had called 911 and emergency personnel started to arrive. Two people had injuries requiring emergency treatment at the hospital.
I did not know any of those amazing individuals who came to my aid. They just showed up and with altruistic and courageous action saved my dog from being mauled to death. Words cannot express how deeply grateful I am. We all hear about heroes among us. I found out they live in my neighborhood. A big thank you to all of them.
