Letter to the editor: Misled about education

To the editor:

While no real fan of the current governor’s opponent in the last election, one of the campaign claims loudly preached across the airwaves was that those in power had fully funded education. Then, just a few days later, the paper says that the Legislature is looking into fully funding special education. I was unaware that special education wasn’t really education. I guess my understanding that the state of Kansas was going to provide a suitable education for all its children was mistaken and that it only meant those who fit into some “normal” classification system.

My bad; this just further reinforces the widely held belief that politicians can’t be trusted or believed, no matter what their party orientation. I will have to work on my falsehood- and half-truth detector for the next round of campaign rhetoric.
