Letter to the editor: Likely a fine person

To the editor:

I’m writing to remind my conservative friends that while they may find KU Student Body President Niya McAdoo’s recent social media post (“happy friday everybody. death to america.”) to be offensive, our Dear Supreme Ruler has, in an earlier decree, made it clear that there are “very fine people on both sides.”

I’m not one to question Dear Supreme Ruler’s edicts, so I’m going to assume Ms. McAdoo is, indeed, a fine person. I encourage Sens. Jerry Moran and Roger Marshall to do the same; otherwise, Dear Supreme Ruler could turn on them prior to the next election, costing their campaigns millions of dollars.

I doubt that Ms. McAdoo truly wants to see America die; rather, I suspect she favors a rebirth. If she truly wanted to see America die, she would have been with the insurrectionists on Jan. 6, chanting “Hang Mike Pence!” or “Where are you, (House Speaker) Nancy (Pelosi)?”

Ms. McAdoo has said she knows that not everyone stands ready to question America’s greatness; she respects her critics’ right to disagree. She says it’s part of the process for building a constructive dialogue aimed at making the university a better place.

Uh oh, Dear Supreme Ruler isn’t going to like that.

Dave Ranney,

Lawrence
