Letter to the editor: Scrap football

To the editor:

Sometimes the stars align just right in Kansas and the decision becomes clear. After the millions of dollars wasted on salaries, the perennial losing seasons, the ever-diminishing number of fans and the latest sordid events surrounding the smarmy football coach and the seemingly clueless AD, it is time for KU to say goodbye to its NCAA football franchise.

In exchange, the university might develop a flag-football program for all students, where instead of getting half-drunk on Saturday afternoons, young Jayhawks could compete among themselves on the gridiron. The time is ripe for KU officials to take the lead in transforming its elite, costly and ineffectual football program into something that is actually beneficial to the larger student body.
