Letter to the editor: Justify your votes
To the editor:
This is my letter to Sens. Jerry Moran and Roger Marshall.
Please justify your vote to acquit former President Donald Trump. Fear of loosing your position of power and privilege is not an excuse to give Trump a pass on sedition and insurrection. Seven people are dead from the events of Jan. 6. The message you sent to all who work in our nation’s Capitol to keep you safe is reprehensible. Excusing your vote on a “constitutional” question is specious at best, considering Trump was impeached during his term and it was Sen. Mitch McConnell who put off the trial, not the House managers. Nearly 500,000 people have died from COVID-19. Many, if not most, of those deaths could have been avoided if you would have done the right thing, your job, and voted to impeach in 2019. I keep asking you to put country over party, and you continue to put yourself and some perverted version of your party before your country and your constituents. Remember, not all your constituents wear a red hat. Nationalism and fascism are, as history has shown, destructive and deadly.
I look forward to your response. Thank you.
Kelly Horton,
Lawrence
