Letter to the editor: GOP is keeping Kansans sick

To the editor:

I just can’t get my mind around how the Kansas Legislature fights so hard to keep the pandemic going. Vaccination is the one true weapon we possess to fight this scourge. Our legislators should be fighting to get every Kansan vaccinated. Instead, they are doing everything they can to find ways for people to not get vaccinated. In the Lawrence Journal-World recently, I read that Rep. Randy Garber, of Sabetha, is even pushing Ivermectin, a drug the FDA has specifically warned against for treating COVID.

The pandemic’s staying power is largely due to unvaccinated people, who are the ones falling the most seriously ill and even dying. They also spread it to vaccinated Kansans, who likely survive due to vaccination, but undergo terrible sickness, even so. The death and disease in Kansas is directly attributable, at least in part, to our GOP legislators who are fighting hard to keep Kansans sick and dying. Even our governor, who obviously knows better, has participated for political reasons, in this deadly sham.

The Kansas GOP’s political posturing which has helped to keep a deadly pandemic in play, needs to stop now, before it costs more lives.

Gary Henry,

Lawrence
