Letter to the editor: Save downtown parking

To the editor:

Before more damage is done to downtown now is the time to make a change!

Probably a bus transfer station is not needed or ever will be but the City Commission is intent on bragging about something.

Locate the “transfer station” at the old site of Channel 6 News. It is a corner that is now not viable or ever will be. That is the northeast corner of Seventh and New Hampshire streets.

It is a wide intersection with stoplights, close to the Amtrak station and can accommodate a platform for interstate bus travel, i.e., Greyhound. I-70 is easy to access. The corner is easy to access from Sixth Street and all points south of downtown as well as North Lawrence.

No parking spaces would be removed from the downtown shopping district. Seventh and New Hampshire needs revitalizing ASAP.

Make the right choice! Save the parking downtown. This is the only chance for the commissioners to make a wise choice for the future.

Lawrence
