Letter to the editor: KU doesn’t do basic finance

To the editor:

The idea, the concept, that KU does not know expenditures on a month to month basis is absurd.

As a professor of electrical engineering and computer science and a principle investigator on multiple research projects at KU, I was required to report monthly expenditures to my sponsors. I accessed DEMIS, then the accounting system for CRINC, on a monthly basis. Then I reported my expected expenditures and actual expenditures. I explained discrepancies.

Even if not required by outside agencies, KU should track revenues and expenditures on a monthly basis. This is basic finance.

We did trust the administrators in Strong Hall to be competent. Now we do not.
