Letter to the editor: Add to park train

To the editor:

I was driving east on Sixth Street recently and looked over and saw the old train engine/coal car. As a kid, I remember playing on that train engine, when my family would come to visit my older sisters, who were attending KU. Back then, kids could climb into and onto the train, which was really fun.

Today, some 50-plus years later, there is a fence to keep everyone safe, but the old train is still fun to see. The lights during the winter are always beautiful. During the Chiefs’ second Super Bowl trip in a row, the train was adorned with red lights.

I have an idea, which might be ridiculous, but I think it would be great to add a couple of old-fashioned boxcars to the train. It would look a little more like a train and would have even more surface for decorative lights.

I always call Buford M. Watson Park “the train park,” so it seems like our city could build on that theme.
