Letter to the editor: Get real about civics lessons

To the editor:

It seems that our civics-minded legislators are being lazy by specifying the U.S. citizenship test for Kansas high-school graduation. How many of those 100 questions relate specifically to Kansas government? Some test questions that could come up randomly include, “How many amendments does the Constitution have?” and “The House of Representatives has how many voting members?” and “What is one thing Benjamin Franklin is famous for?” Four questions relate to voting in some way, but nothing practical and essential such as, “What must you do in advance in order to be able to vote in an election?”
