Letter to the editor: Fix the real problem

To the editor:

My September issue of the Kansas Farmer.com magazine has Paul Penner, a Marion County farmer, writing “Time for Senate Candidates to Step Up.” He calls on the next Senator elected to represent Kansas to: 1) Restore Global Leadership; 2) Seek (re)admission to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership; 3) Support farm programs; 4) End trade wars; 5) Unify COVID-19 response; 6) Fix alliances; and 7) Restore the Renewable Fuel Standards programs. Probably not his intent, but I will pick up the ball now. All those problems blew up because of President Donald Trump. It also means, Sens. Jerry Moran and Pat Roberts along with Reps. Roger Marshall, Steve Watkins and Ron Estes have been either asleep at their posts or sitting idly by condoning the creation of all these problems. If any of these guys are reelected, why would one think for one moment any of the problems cited are going to be fixed by the people who have done nothing to date to stop it?

From me, a former Republican (moderate) now turned Damned Democrat, if you want any of these Trump problems fixed, you might just have to consider voting a straight Damned Democrat all female slate.

Get out and vote. Mail it in. Better yet, take it to the county courthouse and hand your ballot in early — and only do it once.

John Holland,

Ottawa
