Letter to the editor: We are antifa

To the editor:

Who is antifa?

Webster’s Dictionary definition of fascist/fascism:

1. A political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition.

2. A tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control

Antifa equals antifascist.

Famous Fascists: Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini.

Famous antifascists: Presidents Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman; Gens. Eisenhower, Bradley, Patton, MacArthur and many more; 16,000,000 brave U.S. military men and women (not suckers, not losers); millions more Americans in factories, on farms all across the U.S. This included our dads, moms, grandfathers, grandmothers, uncles, aunts, cousins — all part of the Greatest Generation in American history.

Today Donald Trump rails against antifa, praises and calls for white supremacists to “stand by,” and refuses to denounce white supremacists. As the saying goes, if it looks like a duck (fascist), talks like a duck (fascist) and walks like a duck (fascist), then Trump is probably a fascist.

Remember, America, our original antifas, our Greatest Generation worked, fought and died to stop fascists. Today, we true Americans are all antifa. On Nov. 3, vote like you know what our parents sacrificed for.

John Holland,

Ottawa
