Letter to the editor: Ballot proposal

To the editor:

I would like to propose a change in the way the state carries out elections. We, here in Lawrence, had a good number of candidates running for office in the Capitol who were unopposed. That really means that no one would have to vote for them, except themselves, and they would be elected. Why not use the same method as we do for judges? If a candidate is unopposed, then the voting method should read: Should this candidate be retained in office; as there are hardly ever, if at all, any write-in candidates for those offices,

As an aside, while this may tick some folks off, I am unclear as to what the trepidation about in-person voting was all about. Clearly, our election officials had a good plan, as voting in person was both safe, smooth and efficient. The whole process took less than 10 minutes. Kudos to them for being well prepared.

Ken Meyer,

Lawrence
