Letter to the editor: A Lawrence treasure

To the editor:

We have many things to be proud of in Lawrence. As a musician, one that I’m very familiar with but one that might get overlooked by the greater population is the Sound+Vision recording studios in the Lawrence Public Library. Studio Director Jim Barnes and his team, along with library management, are providing a professional and welcoming place for local musicians to record material.

I and several in my band have had the good fortune to record in Nashville, Dallas and Tulsa. Our Sound+Vision studios compare favorably to any in those locations. They have several professional digital software platforms to work from that make it easier to bring band members in one at a time if necessary to lay down their parts. And since my core band is scattered throughout Oklahoma and Kansas, that was necessary. Jim and team were wonderful in assisting with the scheduling process.

In addition to the core band, I’m fortunate to have several Lawrence musicians lend their musical talents to the CD project as well.

Lawrence is great music town with lots of good talent. Thank you to city leadership, library management and library staff for the vision and hard work that makes our library and the Sound+Vision studios a reality. It is an important part of the Lawrence community fabric.

Morey Sullivan,

Lawrence
