Letter to the editor: Not hatred at all

To the editor:

Though filled with self-proclaimed Christian love, Carl Burkhead’s March 23 letter to the editor is quick to assign hatred as being in the hearts of those with whom he disagrees.

In this case, his target is Michael Gerson, who he claims holds a “passionate hatred” for Donald Trump. I very much appreciate the thoughtful and reasoned editorials by Mr. Gerson. Not once have I noted that this writer speaks of hatred for Trump. Instead, he points out the man’s lies, narcissism and total unequivocal incompetence. Hard to argue with any of those positions. None of that, however, is the same as expressing hatred for this person. Mr. Burkhead may wish to reconsider using the Old Testament to defend his argument. The good book contains ample illustrations of hatred.
