Letter to the editor: Ignore Trump

To the editor:

“President (Donald) Trump said on Tuesday that he wanted to reopen the U.S. for business by Easter, on April 12, saying he believed that a crippled economy and forced social isolation would do more harm than the spread of the virus. Public health experts said that lifting the restrictions now in place would result in unnecessary deaths.”

There is absolutely no way this president’s “desire” to have all Americans back at work by Easter is more important than continuing the anti-COVID-19 protocols suggested and recommended by scientists, medical doctors and the CDC!

I am stunned that this president is blithely suggesting we, as a nation, abandon current safeguards to combat the coronavirus in favor of sending everyone back to work prematurely. For President Trump to imply or infer that “his economy” is more important than the lives of Americans of all ages is shocking.

We should all be listening to the doctors (Dr. Anthony Fauci? Dr. Deborah Birx? Your personal physician?) and scientists instead of a “real estate developer” when it comes to matters of medical science!
