Letter to the editor: Cast a righteous ballot

To the editor:

Recently I wrote both of our state’s U.S. senators, pleading with them to “do the righteous thing. Speak out in favor of the new Voting Rights Act (passed by the House of Representatives late last year) and make sure it is named after the late, very honorable Congressman John Lewis. Become our Kansas champion for the ‘enduring struggle for freedom.'” Now, even more urgently, is the necessity for them to stand up, get on the right side of history and demand that Donald Trump stop his unconstitutional invasion of Portland, Ore. and other cities to be named later. This is an imminent threat to our democracy (perhaps the most serious to date), and Sens. Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran should have the moral courage to demand it come to an immediate end. Sadly, I do not expect them to do or say anything. Even more reason for all thoughtful, patriotic Kansans to speak out and cast a righteous ballot in August and November.
