Letter to the editor: Bad faith

To the editor:

Once more we’re subjected to the narrow (closed?) minded promotion of Mr. Carl Burkhead’s view of Christianity (Journal-World, Dec. 31). Of all people, he chooses to attack Michael Gerson’s criticism of so-called “evangelicals,” persons whom he admires for their support of various “moral” positions. It is appalling that anyone could opt to use one’s faith to come to the defense of a faithless, immoral, ruthless narcissist who exemplifies everything Jesus abhors. For Mr. Burkhead, this “imperfect” person is accomplishing God’s perfect will. I cannot imagine a more sick and sickening view. If I believed even for one moment that this is how we must understand and practice our faith, I would quickly withdraw my participation.
