Letter to the editor: It’s not a sport
To the editor:
You can tell from the print ads that autumn is almost here. And once again the outlets are advertising assault rifles under “sporting goods.” When I was a boy learning to hunt squirrel, my daddy would send me out with one 22 long rifle cartridge for the purpose. If I couldn’t bring back a squirrel with that amount of ammunition, then I’d best postpone squirrel hunting until I could. And if he ever heard that I had used an assault rifle on game, he would have tanned my hide and backed over the weapon with his pickup truck. Hunters, get yourself a 12-gauge double for birds and a bolt-action deer rifle — out of self-respect and respect for God’s creatures. Keep your assault rifle if you must, but, c’mon, that’s a hobby, not a sport.
