Letter to the editor: Have a voting plan?

To the editor:

While there is a big election coming up in 2020, there is a consequential election coming up next month with local elections and a vote on a constitutional amendment. Don’t give local elections the cold shoulder. To put it plainly: They matter. Do you have a voting plan?

Local elections are not glamorous and may not make the news like the upcoming state and federal elections, but they have just as big of an impact (and I would argue a bigger impact) on our lives. Local elections will determine our quality of life from our schools, to important tax decisions, to whether or not you folks in Lawrence have to pay for sidewalks. Do you have a voting plan?

Did you know that there is a constitutional amendment on the ballot? Do you have a voting plan?

While today, Oct. 15, is the last day to register, you have until Oct. 29 to request an advance ballot. Ksvotes.org is a great resource for checking your registration status, and you can request an advance ballot there, as well. And, of course, don’t forget that Nov. 5 is election day. What’s your voting plan?
