Letter to the editor: Put Trump on trial
To the editor:
For years, America has sent troops abroad to fight for democracy. Whether we agree with a specific war or with war in general, it can be stated, I think, that the preservation of democracy has always been the reason that was given for getting involved.
It’s time for us to deploy our troops to fight for democracy once again. Only not abroad. Here. In Washington, D.C.
Donald J. Trump and his enablers are destroying our democracy. Every day, they launch a new assault on the framework of our republic. From abandoning our allies to inviting foreign powers to rig our elections to “hereby ordering” to blatantly profiting from the presidency to questioning the right of Congress to open an impeachment inquiry to giving the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Ed Meese, they are denying our essence and allowing a career criminal to act as the tyrant king of a country that rejected monarchy over 200 years ago. A newscaster on Fox accused the Democrats of “regicide”? Regicide. Latin. The action of killing a king. If that doesn’t scare you, it should.
We need to send our armed forces to the South Lawn and to the Rose Garden and to the roof of the White House to take down Donald J. Trump, not to harm him but because he must be made to stand trial. On television. On all the networks. Even Fox. Especially Fox.
Donald Trump has always wanted a war. Let’s give him one. One that his bone spurs won’t get him out of.
Randi Hacker,
Lawrence
