Letter to the editor: No sanctuary city
To the editor:
Federal law, 8 USC Code 1324, prohibits persons from concealing, harboring or shielding from detection undocumented aliens.
Let’s make Lawrence a “Sanctuary City.” While we are at it, let’s ignore other federal laws. I think we should allow ownership of fully automatic weapons. I think we should ignore all laws protecting wildlife and start hunting bald eagles while they’re fishing during the winter at Bowersock Dam. They taste like chicken, you know. How about we ignore all of the EPA regulations and entice lots of manufacturing to our community to boost the local economy?
Have you people lost your ever-loving minds? This country is founded on the rule of law. If you don’t like the laws, change them; don’t ignore them. Is this the example that we want to emulate from our East and West Coast cities? Choose which laws you wish to follow and ignore the rest?
Sanctuary cities are not safer. They actually harbor a population that preys on those afraid to come forward because they can operate with impunity. This not “compassion.” It is stupidity.
