Letter to the editor: Put it to a vote

To the editor:

After going to my very first City Commission meeting (Nov. 12), it will be the last meeting I attend with this group of city commissioners. I just wasted my time.

I could see that Lawrence city commissioners have already formed their opinion as to changing our city from a welcoming city to a sanctuary city. Living here in Lawrence for 58 years of my 68 years of life, I have seen Lawrence become more liberal and more liberal. In Lawrence, with the overshadowing of the University of Kansas, several opinions were presented to become a sanctuary city here in Lawrence.

One question to the city commissioners asked by a person who is a taxpayer, home owner, living here for over 50 years: “Why do we have to be in such a hurry to become a ‘sanctuary city’?”

At present Lawrence is a welcoming city. Any thoughts on this?

Can we put this to a public vote for the taxpayers and the citizens of Lawrence to vote on this?

Martha Conlin,

Lawrence
