Letter to the editor: Parking abuses

To the editor:

I am a nice guy, but I have to get this off my chest. Handicap parking is for exactly that. People who have a handicap placard or license plate. Once a parking stall is designated as handicap accessible, that parking stall is under the jurisdiction of the police department. Even if you own or lease the property, only the police (state laws) decide who gets to park there. It’s not for anybody who just wants to run into the store real quick and be gone for two minutes. It’s not for you to stack your plants or other products you sell during specific seasons. It’s not for the car rental company to park the car there for two minutes so the person renting the car doesn’t have to walk the grueling 50 feet to get into it, or for them to park the car there when they drop it off. Don’t be using Grandma’s placard or driving her car because you are too darn lazy to walk a little. You are disrespecting people with handicaps, like myself, when you abuse those parking stalls. I usually call the police when I see someone violating the handicap accessible parking laws, and it is at least a $100 fine.
