Letter to the editor: Great city service

To the editor:

A big shout-out to the employees in municipal services and operations, particularly those working in the pavement management (pothole repair) and the solid waste divisions. Lawrence roads took a beating after the long winter and heavy rains this past spring, and keeping the many potholes filled has been an unending challenge. On a number of occasions, after a pothole reporting form was filled out, the pavement was repaired within 24 hours. Similarly, hats off to the crews in the solid waste division for their untiring efforts to collect the mountains of garbage that form every time students and others move out. Laying asphalt or picking up trash in hot, humid weather is not for the faint of heart and these employees deserve special recognition.

Ray Finch,

Lawrence
