Letter to the editor: Give jail alternatives time

To the editor:

Where is the honesty in this dialogue about increasing the jail size? The people have expressed their opinion on this issue in May 2019. The ongoing costs have not been truthfully communicated to the people. Instead of allowing jail alternatives the time they need, we are rushing to put a bandaid on the problem. Give the drug court and the behavioral health court the time they need to reduce admissions into our jail. Are there not empty buildings in the community that could be renovated and staffed for short term jail housing to remedy overcrowding at a much lesser cost?
