Letter to the editor: Protect the most vulnerable

To the editor:

The Lawrence Community Shelter is the last resort. People who have families to take them in, or who are eligible for other programs, do no end up in the shelter.

I have had to do with some homeless folks lately. The city declared nearby trailers unsafe. There is no place else for those kicked out. And now 60 more people are being thrown out on the street?

How long until some of these folks die of heat or violent means?

Can’t we as a community do better than this for our poorest people?

Anne Haehl,

Lawrence
