Winter storm watch in effect starting Tuesday evening; Lawrence could get 4-11 inches of snow

A winter storm watch is in effect for Douglas County and other areas of Kansas from Tuesday evening until Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service says rain is expected to transition to snow Tuesday evening, and snow will be likely through Thursday morning.

Total snow accumulation of 4 to 11 inches is possible, with the highest amounts along and southeast of the Kansas Turnpike.

Winds of 15 to 20 mph with possible gusts of 30 mph may cause blowing and drifting snow, affecting visibility. Travel could be very difficult on Wednesday and Thursday.

Additionally, wind chills could fall 15 degrees below zero on Thursday morning.

The storm watch is in effect from 9 p.m. Tuesday until noon Thursday in central, east-central and northeast Kansas.
