Chief Justice Marla Luckert of the Kansas Supreme Court said in a release on Wednesday that she will be resting for a few weeks after a minor car accident that doctors believe was caused by a stroke.

Luckert released a statement Wednesday about her health and about the accident, which occurred on Thursday, Oct. 9, as she was on her way home from work.

“Fortunately, I did not hit any other vehicle or hurt anyone,” her statement read. “Doctors believe I had a stroke which caused the accident.”

Luckert said that she was briefly hospitalized, but that she would not need speech or physical therapy. She said she was “resting comfortably at home” and that she had been “ordered to rest for at least the next few weeks.”

“I will provide further updates going forward,” Luckert said in the statement. “Again, I want to deeply thank everyone for their concern and warm thoughts.”
