Kelly orders flags to half-staff in Kansas to honor U.S. service members killed in Afghanistan

Gov. Laura Kelly has directed flags throughout Kansas to be lowered to half-staff effective immediately until sunset on Aug. 30 to honor U.S. service members and other victims killed in the terrorist attack Thursday in Kabul, Afghanistan.

“My father was career Army, and I know firsthand the sacrifices those in our military and their loved ones make for our country,” Kelly said in a news release Friday. “My thoughts are with the families of the victims of Thursday’s tragic attack in Kabul.”

Kelly’s flag order follows a proclamation of President Joe Biden.
