Volunteer program to give backpacks, school supplies to students in need throughout the county

Families that are in need of backpacks and school supplies are urged to contact their school to be put on the list for a donated backpack. Public schools in Lawrence, Baldwin City and Eudora are participating in the program, which is being coordinated by the school districts and several area nonprofit agencies.

Pens await packing into backpacks that will be given to Douglas County students in need of supplies. Members of the public donated a variety of school supplies, including notebooks, folders, headphones, markers, scissors, masks, tissues and many other supplies.
