Cynthia Johnson will continue serving as interim principal at Lawrence High School next year, pending school board approval, according to a news release Friday from the Lawrence school district.
“Our board members, district administrators, and I have been receiving lots of positive feedback from students, staff, and parents about Dr. Johnson’s leadership,” Superintendent Anthony Lewis said in the release.
Lewis also cited the need to provide continuity during ongoing construction at LHS, which was approved in 2017 as part of an $87 million bond issue. LHS construction is scheduled for completion by the start of the 2021-2022 school year.
Johnson previously served 30-plus years as a teacher, principal and district-level project leader in various school districts in Missouri. Since 1993, according to the release, she worked as an independent national educational consultant. She joined LHS in July after Principal Matt Brungardt resigned to become the principal at his alma mater in Salina.
“I’m honored to continue serving the LHS Chesty Lion students, families, faculty and staff,” Johnson said in the release. “I will continue to work with all stakeholders.”
