A Southwest Middle School student allegedly threatened to shoot another student during the bus ride home from school on Monday, the Lawrence school district announced Thursday afternoon.
The Lawrence police department is helping the school investigate after a parent reported the incident to school staff Thursday, district spokeswoman Julie Boyle said in a news release at 3:12 p.m. Thursday.
The victim thought that the student who allegedly made the threat may have had a weapon, Boyle said. The school has notified the families of both students and taken disciplinary action in accordance with board policy, she said. School administrators were also informing students, staff and parents of the investigation, Boyle said in the news release.
Additional information was not immediately available. Lawrence police were made aware of the allegation Thursday afternoon and began investigating the incident, Officer Derrick Smith told the Journal-World. No arrests had been made as of 4:56 p.m. Thursday, Smith said.
