A man was found deceased last week in a home following a lengthy incident to which dozens of Lawrence police officers responded.

Police spokeswoman Laura McCabe told the Journal-World on Monday that officers were called on Wednesday to the 3500 block of Prairie Clover Court about a person armed with a shotgun who was potentially involved in a crime.

Officers heard shots fired at some point and evacuated some neighbors, McCabe said. They had other neighbors stay put and asked some neighbors not to return if they were already out.

Witnesses in the area later told the Journal-World that the incident lasted into Thursday morning and involved a large police presence. They said they heard police trying to coax someone out of a house on multiple occasions throughout the night.

McCabe said that negotiators were called in to deescalate the situation and to offer help to the man, but ultimately he was found deceased inside.

The home is just south of the Kansas Turnpike and slightly northwest of the intersection of Peterson Road and Kasold Drive.

Police had not released the man’s name or age by Monday afternoon. Property records indicate that the home is owned by a construction company.
