Lawrence police say a ukulele turned into a weapon when a man, who appeared highly intoxicated, used it to damage several vehicles.

Officers were called around 2 p.m. Saturday to the 1200 block of Kentucky Street, where several witnesses reported seeing a man hitting vehicles with the instrument, then chasing a moving car down the street. The car kept moving and the man broke the windshield out of another parked vehicle and dropped the ukulele, according to a news release from police.

Officers were familiar with the man witnesses described and found him lying on the ground in the 1700 block of Massachusetts Street. He was safely taken into custody, police said.

Officers are interested in hearing from any additional witnesses to the crime. People with information can call nonemergency dispatch at 785-843-0250.
