A Douglas County judge has dismissed two sex-crime charges against a Kansas City, Missouri, man at the request of the district attorney.
DA Dakota Loomis on Oct. 31 moved to dismiss the case of Daunte Alaiwat without prejudice, meaning it still can be refiled. Loomis said in his motion that he was doing so because of “insufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt.”
The case was scheduled to go to trial this month.
As the Journal-World reported, Alaiwat was arrested on Feb. 12, 2024, and was charged with one count of rape by force or fear and one count of aggravated sodomy, both felonies. The charges were in connection with an incident on Oct. 15, 2022.
