Lawrence police are investigating an armed disturbance in Clinton Park after two homeless people were found with slash wounds.

Officers responded to Clinton Park near the intersection of West Sixth and Maine streets just after 6 a.m. Thursday after a witness reported a woman “covered in blood,” according to a release from the Lawrence Police Department.

Police spoke to the injured 35-year-old woman, who had wounds that appeared to have been caused by a knife. After speaking to the woman, police were led to a 20-year-old man, Marquise Bowens, a couple of blocks away who also had wounds consistent with having been slashed with a knife, the release said.

Bowens was later arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder.

Investigators do not believe anyone else was involved in the disturbance. Both people required medical attention but suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening; the victim remains hospitalized, the release said.
