A Lawrence man was taken into custody Tuesday night on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder after he allegedly fired at least a dozen bullets into a residence.
Police were called to a residence near 33rd and Iowa streets in southwest Lawrence around 9 p.m. Tuesday after multiple neighbors reported hearing gunshots, according to a release from the Lawrence Police Department.
Officers found a mobile home that appeared to have been shot at, with a man inside who had not been injured. Investigators quickly identified a suspect, according to the release.
Police then contacted the suspect, Douglas Adam Speight, 33, on the telephone, and Speight allegedly expressed “extreme anger” toward the man who was in the mobile home that was fired upon, according to the release.
An officer was able to calm Speight down enough over the phone that officers could take him into custody without incident at Speight’s home.
