Baldwin City man dies in one-car crash on I-35

A Baldwin City man was killed Wednesday evening in a one-car crash on Interstate 35 in Johnson County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol identified the deceased as Delbert Kevin Oldfield, 61.

According to KHP, shortly before 8 p.m. Oldfield was northbound on I-35, about half a mile south of 75h Street, driving at a high rate of speed. Oldfield swerved to the left to avoid striking another vehicle, then ran off the road and struck the median barrier wall. His vehicle, a 2012 Audi, rode the median barrier wall before coming back onto the interstate, where it spun around and came to rest backward in a lane of traffic.

Firefighters and paramedics completed extrication and immediately started CPR on Oldfield, which continued into the ambulance, according to dispatch. He was taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center, where he died.
