Lawrence police investigating late-night shooting that left 23-year-old critically injured

Lawrence Police are investigating a late-night shooting that left a 23-year-old Lawrence man hospitalized in critical condition.
The shooting reportedly occurred in the 1700 block of West Sixth Street Wednesday night. Police were called at 10:58 p.m. by LMH Health staff, who reported that a man had been dropped off at the emergency room suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Due to the severity of the victim’s injuries, he was transferred to an area trauma center, where he remains in critical condition, police said in a social media post early Thursday morning.
Investigators are actively following leads to find the people involved in the shooting. Based on the leads they have generated thus far, police do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public related to the shooting.
Police said the investigation was in its early stages and they were unable to provide further information.
“We anticipate having further information to release later on Thursday,” they said.
