Lawrence police and Douglas County deputies worked several crashes overnight and helped multiple motorists during the overnight snowstorm.
Just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, a vehicle skidded off the road on Kansas Highway 10 just east of the Iowa Street exit, said George Diepenbrock with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Both the driver and the passenger of the vehicle were taken to a Topeka area hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
In total, deputies worked five motorist assists and one additional crash that resulted in no injuries.
“We still would encourage people to be careful especially today with the snowy conditions. I know many things are closed, so it helps if people can stay home, if possible,” Diepenbrock said.
The Lawrence Police Department by midmorning Wednesday also assisted five motorists during the storm and worked six noninjury crashes, said Laura McCabe, a spokesperson for the department.
