Lawrence police are investigating after a person was shot near 19th Street and Naismith Drive on Wednesday evening.

According to a post on the Lawrence Police Department’s social media, one person was shot and taken to an area trauma center. Emergency medical radio traffic on Wednesday evening said that the person was a 21-year-old man and was wounded in the torso.

Police said on social media that officers were talking with a suspect on the scene. They asked the public to avoid the area.
