A person was injured near 19th Street and Naismith Drive on Wednesday evening in what police are saying was likely an accidental shooting.

According to a post on the Lawrence Police Department’s social media, one person was shot at an apartment near the intersection of 19th and Naismith. That location is just south of the University of Kansas campus; police did not provide a specific address.

The person who was shot was taken to an area trauma center. According to emergency medical radio traffic on Wednesday evening, the person was a 21-year-old man and was wounded in the torso.

Police said that when the shooting happened, several people were in the apartment, and that everyone involved was cooperating with police.
