Lawrence Police and a woman who was attacked Thursday in her home are thanking a good Samaritan for subduing the suspect.
Officers responded to a call in the 900 block of Kentucky Street just before midnight and found two men fighting inside a woman’s apartment. One of the men had the other held down, police said. Officers deescalated and gained control of the situation and were able to separate the three people.
After an investigation, it became clear that the woman had never met either man, police said. Investigators believe the man broke into the apartment through a window, told the woman he was a police officer and said she needed to get her purse. The man then attacked her.
Another man heard the violence, came through the open window, held the attacker down and told the woman to call for help.
The suspect was eventually booked into the Douglas County Jail after being checked out at the hospital, where he is also suspected of battering a hospital employee.
The man who helped out had minor cuts and bruises, as did the female victim, police said.
The Douglas County District Attorney’s Office has charged Loren Dale Partrich, 40, with numerous offenses related to the incident, including aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and attempted aggravated burglary, all felonies; and sexual battery and battery, both misdemeanors.
Partrich has numerous convictions in Douglas County and Johnson County for burglary, theft and other offenses, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections, where he has previously been incarcerated. He also has been the subject of dozens of disciplinary reports while imprisoned, going back to 2006.
